Every homeowner knows that plants look absolutely gorgeous against the background of a brick wall. But how to hang plants on a brick wall without damaging it? Let’s find out what you need to do!

Installing planters with drilling

The most obvious way of attaching your plants to the wall is by drilling holes and installing some hangers or shelves, depending on what amount of plants and flowers you want to include. How to do that? First, you should weigh the planter when it's wet, so you know how much weight it needs to hold. Of course, remember to drill into the bricks and not the mortar, as mortar is much more crumbly and will not support the weight. How to hang plants on brick?

  • Plan the placement of the brackets and mark each spot on the wall so you know where to drill.
  • Check the marks with a level and make sure that planters will be sitting straight.
  • Pick up a drill with a masonry bit and drill the openings at the marked spots.
  • Use a hammer to push the plastic anchors into the holes.
  • Hold the chosen brackets over the plastic anchors and screw them to the wall. Make sure it holds before you add your planters.

Attaching planters without drilling

All the mentioned solutions can come in handy, but some homeowners want to hang their plants on the wall without damaging the surface. Can it be done and, if so, how do you attach a planter to a brick wall without drilling? The good news is, yes, it’s possible, and we know two methods that can help you with that!

  • Brick clip-ons

If you want to hang plants on a brick wall, you may reach for clip-ons, products that grip the edges of the bricks in places where they stick out beyond the mortar. One end of the clip is saw-toothed, and the other one consists of metal tabs that snap over the edge of the adjacent brick. The clips usually can hold the weight up to 13 kg, but if your plants are heavier, you may use more clips-ons to redistribute the weight evenly.

  • Brick hangers

Another option that may interest you is brick hangers. There are several thin nails on the back of each piece that you can then press into the brick to secure the hanger to the wall. As we mentioned, the spikes are very slim, which means they won’t leave visible marks on the surface and won’t lead to the brick cracking. Later, when they're not needed anymore, you can just pry them off of the wall. Remember that bricks can often be quite hard, so you may need a hammer for attaching them to the wall. However, with a few taps, they should go in.
